These are go-to links I’ve collected over the years, now organized online. I’m still working on adding all of them from my browser favorites, so it’s a work in progress.
As we all know so painfully well, hyperlinks tend to change over time. Please, if you find a bad hyperlink here, let me know and I’ll fix it ASAP.
Most links are free! If they’re subscription based, they’re noted with “$$”
I’m also including links to digitized historical state and county histories whenever I find them online. About county state and county histories: I tend to use only county histories published at a time when the people providing information in the biographies were alive or who would have personally known the people in the biographies. In my experience, more recent county histories (say, 1940 and upwards) that contain biographies about individuals long dead are generally not sourced, and I only use them as clues.
When following links to familysearch.org, you will probably need to log in to view the records (familysearch accounts are free).
